HP Pavilion DM3-1130US Review
Do not be fooled-dm3 the HP Pavilion 1130us, despite its brushed aluminum housing, with discrete graphics and bright 13.3-inch display, it is still a deficit budget notebook. It is smooth looking and solidly built ultraportable comes with a comfortable keyboard, and all the features you expect in a 13-inch notebook. Productivity is up there with the competition. Too bad, its battery life is too short.
Design
At a time when most affordable notebooks are wrapped in plastic and sporting shiny surfaces, the dm3-1130us is a breath of fresh air. Its silver brushed aluminum finish gives the notebook a solid feel and is easy on the eyes, and you will not be smeared by the pesky fingerprints so noticeable on systems have to be bothered with glossy cover. Measuring 1.2 cm at its thickest point and weighing in at 4.2 pounds, it’s just a little heavier and a bit thicker than the current crop of 13-inch laptops, including the 0.75-inch thick Toshiba Satellite T135-S1300 (3.7 pounds) and the 0.8-inch thick ASUS UL30A-A1 (3.9 pounds).
The 13.3 inch widescreen display with LED backlight one is 1366 x 768 resolution, rather below the 13-inch notebooks together in this price range, even if you can use a higher resolution screens in notebooks such as Dell and HP’s own studio 14Z Envy will find 13. The panel has a good job of the display clear, readable text and colors were bright and clearly defined. The chiclet keyboard, surrounded by the same brushed aluminum, used on the exterior finish, a clear and easy to type, and polished the chrome touchpad provides smooth cursor control. The mouse buttons can be a little stubborn and require clicking a tough though. There are no special media controls on this laptop but it is a convenient touch pad on off button directly above the pad.

Features
Feature-wise, the dm3-1130us offers a few nice surprises. It includes four USB ports, while most 13-inch notebooks such as Toshiba and Acer Aspire T135 Timeline AS3810T three. As with the Acer and Toshiba models, the dm3-1130us lacks an optical drive. It is, however, with a discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD3200 graphics solution, rather than provided an integrated GPU. The improved graphics performance is useful for things like games run smooth HD video but not quite the chops to 3D games. Our 720p test clip, The Magic of Flight played smoothly without any hiccups or hesitation.

Networking is one 802.11b g n Wireless Adapter and treat Fast Ethernet (10 100) for wired connections, and there is a webcam embedded in the upper panel in the display. The 320 GB (7,200 rpm) hard drive is standard for this Issue category, but a 500 GB hard drive used as the ASUS UL30A/A1 would be even better. The drive is loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and the full range of HP MediaSmart multimedia applications. Microsoft Works, Cyberlink DVD Suite and HP’s Advisor are also part of the software package, as well as trial versions of MS Office 2007 Home & Student and Symantec Norton Internet Security 2010. The dm3-1130us is powered by a AMD Athlon X2 processor Neo-a low-voltage dual-core CPU running at 1.60GHz and driven 4 GB of DDR2 memory. Although productivity was not earth shattering, but certainly competitive. It scored 2412 on our PCMark Vantage test, only 40 points behind our current “Editor’s Choice”, the ASUS UL30A-A1. The Acer Aspire AS3810T led with a score of 2800th, the dm3-1130us not much better on our Cinebench R10 Video test code to run a score of 2478 to the guests UL30A-A1 in 1595, but once again, the AS3810T beat them both with a score of 3304th It also deals with our Windows Media Encoding test with flying colors against the T135 -S1300-A1 and UL30A by more than a minute, and thus behind the AS3810T only 18 seconds.

The dm3-1130us lasted 4 hours and 20 minutes on our MobileMark 2007 battery test, which is not terrible, but falls far short of the scores we have come to expect from this class of laptop. For example, it took the ASUS Ul30A-A1 an incredible 10:27, while the Acer AS3810T hung there for 8:40 and the satellite-T135-S1300 ran 7:43.
With its clean lines and solid build quality, looks, the HP Pavilion 1130us-dm3 much more expensive than it is, and the inclusion of a discrete, albeit a low-end, graphics solution makes it a good choice if you stutter Watch want – free HD (720p) video. While productivity is where it should be, battery life pales in comparison to other 13-inch notebooks.
