Sony updates VAIO P for Windows 7

Sony expands its evening extra-small Vaio P netbook in the U.S., to keep in sync with Windows 7. The new models now all running Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional, and with that change alone is much faster than the older models run stalled by steep demands of Vista.

Likewise, they have been brought into step with the Japanese updates and have the option of up to 2 GHz atom, a 256GB solid-state drive and a champagne-colored shell.

A basic system will continue to sell for $ 850 with a 1.33 GHz Atom, 2 GB of RAM, an 80GB hard drive and both GPS and a 3G modem for Verizon’s EVDO network. An upgrade to a 64GB solid-state drive raises the price to $ 1,000, but also adds a 1.6 GHz Atom. The 2-GHz chip and 256 GB hard drive are in a top-$ 1900 model.

Last updated models will arrive in stores by the end of November.
