By now most of us know that Dell has promised to computers running Canonical’s Ubuntu Linux. So far, it is by following a few of his machines. In particular, it is also possible, with the Ubuntu Netbook on each, the company offers. Dell has now decided on his Ubuntu Studio 13 XPS laptop.

The Linux option is not surprising that all-was surprising, as the machine from Dell. The Studio XPS 13 with Ubuntu can not be updated as comprehensive as the Vista version of the same laptop. It is on a 2.53 GHz processor upgrade from 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, while the Vista machine can store up to 2.66 GHz. The Ubuntu version can only upgrade to 4 GB of RAM, with the Vista version is all the way up to a possible 8 GB. There is also the lack of availability of mobile broadband module or 9-cell battery that the laptop with Vista.

It is more than a bit annoying that Dell uses these restrictions on the Ubuntu version. The operating system can definitely all of these upgrades that Vista can and can greatly benefit from them. Of course, Ubuntu is not the most popular choice among Dell’s customers, but that’s no excuse to cripple the upgrade options for all Ubuntu-equipped machine compared to a Windows. It makes more sense to just buy the full version of Vista update, and replace it with Jaunty Jackalope not always stuck with limited options and Ubuntu 8.10 from Dell.
